Photo day is all about capturing your little one's personality and their interaction with the kindy environment.
The biggest question I get asked by Parents is -
What shall my child wear for the Kindy Photo session ?
- Clean and Comfortable clothing ! (pack it in the bag to change into if your worried it will get dirty before photos - let your teacher know)
Some Ideas for clothing are :
Simple colours, rich textures, classic patterns , cute little collars on boys button up shirts, Girls with dresses and leggings etc, or shirts and skirts -whatever their style.
Head and Shoulder Portrait photos - Some element of detail around the neckline area works really well - eg collared shirts, necklaces or outfits with designs.
We see so many adorable little outfits !
I would suggest to avoid >>>>> - Logos and Character Clothing (unless it is a preference of yours).
The reason for this is - You may see a photos in your gallery that you absolutely love and shines with your child's personality - you may want to order Wall art for your home to display ! Some parents have said to me in the past.... I just adore his/her photos - I wish I wouldn't have dressed him/her in that shirt ! . Again - completely a personal choice - but I just like to point it out as something to consider.
Tips for your child to be excited for photos >>>>
- The can choose their favourite outfit out of a pre-selection done by you ! Or just let them choose what ever they want to wear as that is okay too and they will feel special and proud. At the end of the day - with perfection there is no story to tell.
- They may choose to include a special beanie in winter/ cute hats in summer
- Girls can choose to wear their favourite necklace, hair clips etc. Ive had some turn up with adorable headbands and tiara's.
- avoid coaching them to say "Cheese" - instead let them know they will have lots of fun with the photographer and just show your happy face
- Some little ones bring along a comfort item and I love this ! What better way to document their loves at this stage of life and something to remember in years to come. Encourage your child to bring their favourite snuggle toy and show me !
Seasonal tips:
If we have your photo session scheduled in the colder months - We generally will photograph your child in the outdoor environment with their jumper/jacket on. We then ask if they would like a few photos with it off. We always give them the choice. Please just make sure you send your child along to kindy dressed for photos for outside temperatures. If it's raining on photo day - we always photograph under cover or if it's really bad weather we tend to try and reschedule as a last resort.
Sun Safety:
We absolutely follow all rules of sun safety at kindy/ childcares. Children come outside to us with their hats on and we just pop them off whilst taking a few photos - generally no longer than a few minutes and most of our photos are taken in the shade. . I will even use the hat in a few photos - so a photo of your child in a cute hat is always a lovely addition to your gallery.
